School of Education Mission Statement and Goals
The College of Arts, Education, and Sciences cultivates and supports a scholarly environment
that enhances critical thinking skills, creativity, and the ability of students, faculty,
and staff to contribute meaningfully to the greater community regionally, nationally,
and globally.Ìý
As the academic heart of the University, the College has the primary mission to ensure
student-centered learning through participation in a diverse range of artistic, educational,
cultural, and scientific activities.
Ìý
In support of its mission, the School of Education will:
- Work to decrease attrition rates and increase retention rates by providing a support
structure for candidates from diverse backgrounds
- Facilitate efficient matriculation through the recruitment and administration process
- Increase School of Education’s visibility in local secondary schools, thus creating
greater accessibility
- Increase collaborative efforts with student organizations on campus to help with recruitment
efforts
- Utilize career coaches
- Engage in campus visits
- Provide culturally responsive pedagogy to improve communication and relations for
all teacher candidates going out in the field
- Engage and train Faculty Advisors in micro-messaging techniques in order to improve
retention
