We are made up of four academic units: the School of Education, dedicated to the preparation of outstanding teachers; the School of Humanities, studying the nuance and significance of history, languages, and communication; the School of Sciences, searching for solutions to problems in the natural world; and the School of Visual and Performing Arts, where vibrant performances and artwork challenge and inspire us.Ìý

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï School of Visual and Performing Arts to host guest artist Ellie Jenkins

Ellie Jenkins, DMA, Professor of Music at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia and Artist Affiliate in Horn at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, will present a recital on Tuesday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall on the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï campus. Jenkins will be assisted by ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Professor of Piano Richard Seiler, DMA. Jenkins will also work with ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï music students in a masterclass earlier that day.

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï holds reception for launch of new ACES program

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï held a reception to honor the launch of the new ACES program on August 8, 2024. The Academics, Career, Engagement, and Support (ACES) Transition and Postsecondary Program is a comprehensive transition and postsecondary education experience for young adults with intellectual disabilities. ACES provides its students with an inclusive college experience, including courses designed to prepare participants for the workforce.

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï inaugural Cultural Arts Fellowship recipient to exhibit work at June Art Crawl

The inaugural recipient of the Cultural Arts Fellowship is Jansyn Jenkins, a junior double majoring in ceramics and psychology at ºÚÁϳԹÏ. As a VAPA Cultural Arts Fellow, students are expected to contribute scholarship through creative works and extracurricular exhibitions/performances in city art spaces in partnership with a participating cultural arts organization. In Jansyn's case, this would be a partnership with the Black Creative Circle of North Louisiana. Jansyn's work will be exhibited in the Sugar Gallery (131 Art Alley, Monroe) upstairs studio from June 2 through June 15, and there will be an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. during the June Art Crawl on June 6.

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Visual and Performing Arts hires Vitus Shell as assistant professor of art in illustration

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) is proud to announce the appointment of Vitus Shell as assistant professor of art in illustration. Shell is a mixed-media artist born in Monroe, LA. His works are geared toward the Black experience, giving agency to people from the Monroe community through powerful images of deconstructing, sampling, and remixing identity, civil rights, and contemporary Black culture.
